Job Description Summary:

The Department of English at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Cinema Studies, with primary specialization in narrative or documentary filmmaking. The appointment will begin August 15, 2018.

Cinema Studies at OU is an energetic and growing program, with a fall 2017 expansion adding the option of a B.A. in Cinema Studies with a Specialization in Filmmaking. This degree, along with our existing critical studies-focused B.A. in Cinema Studies, integrates theoretical and production-based approaches to film and media.
Required qualifications include: MFA in filmmaking or a related discipline with a primary specialization in narrative or documentary filmmaking; a record of, or potential for, excellent teaching at the undergraduate level; and a significant record of creative activity and exhibition in film and/or video. Fluency in historical and theoretical frameworks for film practice is expected. Experience with contemporary online media platforms and related creative practices is welcome.

Teaching responsibilities would include undergraduate teaching of beginning and intermediate courses in digital filmmaking, upper level courses in narrative and/or documentary filmmaking and other areas of expertise; and the filmmaking thesis capstone course. The teaching load is 3/2. The candidate will also be expected to maintain an active record of creative practice and exhibition, to contribute to the ongoing development of the Cinema Studies program, and to provide service within the department, college, and university.
