Job Description Summary:

Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB) is seeking applicants for Associate or full Professor in the discipline of Population Health. The successful candidate will be afforded an administrative stipend for serving as the founding Director of Population Health Informatics. This is a full time, 12-month tenured position within the Department of Biomedical Sciences with an Investigator focus.

The Investigator focus is reserved for individuals whose academic activities are predominately dedicated to basic, translational, or clinical research.

This new Program in Population Health Informatics is being developed by OUWB in coordination with Oakland University, Beaumont Health – a leading healthcare system in southeast Michigan, and the Beaumont Research Institute (BRI). With the goals of incorporating existing strengths throughout Oakland University and Beaumont Health, and aligning with OUWB’s commitment to promoting and restoring health to communities served by the school and its graduates, the new program will focus broadly on the vision of advancing improved outcomes, systems of care, and health for individuals and communities, including a commitment to health equity and an understanding of the social, economic and behavioral determinants of health. In addition to existing faculty and investigators engaged in population health research, OUWB and BRI are committed to the recruitment of up to six additional faculty for the program. These individuals will be recruited to meet the broad program vision and goals of the founding director. Certificate and graduate degree programs will be developed as faculty expertise is identified. Core infrastructure and services such as an Informatics/Biostatistics Core, Outcomes Research Office and Clinical Research Database will be available to the director and the program through both OUWB and BRI.

General Responsibilities:

1. Works with investigators, administration and information technology to develop and sustain the vision and infrastructure required for interdisciplinary research focusing on population health and medical informatics.
2. Serves as program director for population health and attends chair’s meetings.
3. Develops synergistic research collaborations and educational initiatives with investigators at OUWB, other Oakland University colleges, the (BRI), and other institutions;
4. Participates in independent and collaborative, extramurally funded academic and scholarly activities,
5. Provides mentorship and assistance to faculty and trainees involved in population health
6. Provides instruction in various settings, including the instruction of medical students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
7. Generates curricular materials for instructional activities. Coordinates and integrates instructional activities and curricular materials with other faculty in order to enhance the learning experience for students.
8. Establishes learning objectives and competency standards. Contributes to the process of student assessment materials and procedures. Develops and implements effective remediation processes for students identified as preforming below competency standards

Minimum Qualifications:

A. A Ph.D., M.D., DO or equivalent
B. Training, experience and demonstrated evidence of leadership in population health.
C. A record of continued extramural research support and a commitment to community engagement and strong academic programs.
D. Candidates must demonstrate experience with or commitment to diversity and inclusion.
E. A record of contributions to scientific literature
F. Regional/National recognition
